Tip #5: Fill up with healthy fats
The old belief that all fat is bad and leads to weight gain is so untrue. There are fats you should try to avoid like trans fats (found in fried and processed foods) and saturated fats (in foods like butter and bacon). Monounsaturated fats however are good for you- they actually help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels! Also, many foods higher in monounsaturated fat also contain omega-3’s which help maintain healthy hair and skin. Foods like flax seeds, avocado, nuts, olive oil and canola oil all contain these healthy fats. Including a little fat in meals also helps keep you full longer. My favorite way to give my morning bowl of oats or cereal more staying power is to add some sunflower seeds, chopped cashews or flax meal.
I’m trying to follow my own advice today starting with a bowl of rice cereal, raisins, rice milk and flax meal- yum!
